EJ&T - 2 Timothy and Titus: Rebuke Cretans and reject heretics

In the Every Jot and Tittle project, I am listing all of the Bible's commandments from Genesis to Revelation, in accordance with Jesus's words in Matthew 5:18-19. I have no idea how many commandments I'll find, but Jewish tradition claims there are 613. See here for a list of those that I've found so far.

  1. Don't be ashamed of the author of Second Timothy.
  2. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner. 2 Timothy 1:8

  3. Partake in the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God.
  4. Be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God. 2 Timothy 1:8

    Endure afflictions. 2 Timothy 4:5

  5. Hold fast to the words of the author of Second Timothy.
  6. Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 1:13

    The things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. 2 Timothy 2:2

    Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. 2 Timothy 2:7

    Of these things put them in remembrance. 2 Timothy 2:14

  7. Keep the good thing that the Holy Ghost gave you.
  8. That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us. 2 Timothy 1:14

  9. Endure hardness.
  10. Endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 2 Timothy 2:3

  11. Remember that Jesus of David's seed was raised from the dead.
  12. (According to the gospel of the author of 2 Timothy.)
    Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel. 2 Timothy 2:8

  13. Study to show that you are approved by God.
  14. (Rightly dividing the word of truth, so you won't have to be ashamed.)
    Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

  15. Follow peace.
  16. Follow ... peace. 2 Timothy 2:22

    Follow peace with all men. Hebrews 12:14

  17. Avoid foolish and unlearned questions.
  18. Foolish and unlearned questions avoid. 2 Timothy 2:23

    Avoid foolish questions. Titus 3:9

  19. Don't argue.
  20. The servant of the Lord must not strive. 2 Timothy 2:24

    Avoid ... contentions, and strivings about the law. Titus 3:9

  21. Be gentle with everyone.
  22. 2 Timothy 2:24

    To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle. Titus 3:2

  23. Meekly instruct those that oppose themselves.
  24. (So they can free themselves from the the snare of the devil.)
    In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will. 2 Timothy 2:25-26

  25. Watch everything.
  26. Watch thou in all things 2 Timothy 4:5

  27. Be an evangelist.
  28. Do the work of an evangelist. 2 Timothy 4:5

  29. Prove your ministry.
  30. Make full proof of thy ministry. 2 Timothy 4:5

  31. Rebuke the Cretans.
  32. (Because the people who live on the island of Crete are all liars, evil beasts, and slow bellies.)
    The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith. Titus 1:12

  33. Old men should be sober, grave, temperate, faithful, charitable, and patient.
  34. That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. Titus 2:2

  35. Old women should be holy, not false accusers, not drink too much wine, and teach good things.
  36. The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Titus 2:3-5

  37. Tell young men to be sober-minded.
  38. Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. Titus 2:6

  39. Don't let anyone despise you.
  40. Let no man despise thee. Titus 2:15

  41. Don't say bad things about anyone.
  42. Speak evil of no man. Titus 3:2

    Speak not evil one of another, brethren. James 4:11

  43. Reject heretics.
  44. (After warning them a time or two.)
    A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject. Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself. Titus 3:10
